The Common Final Examination (CFE) is a three-day examination in which CPA candidates demonstrate the depth and breadth of their competency development in accordance with the CPA Competency Map.

The CFE must be attended and written in person at a CPA testing centre in Canada. This exam is offered twice a year in May and September.

To be eligible to write the CFE, candidates must successfully complete the required CPA PEP modules or completed an accredited program offered at a recognized post-secondary institution.

Support

Employers can support CPA Candidates preparing for the exam by offering:

  1. Provide Study Time: Allow candidates dedicated time off work to study for the CFE. This can be in the form of study leave or flexible working hours.
  2. Financial Support: Cover the costs associated with the CPA program including exam fees. This financial assistance can alleviate stress and allow candidates to focus on their studies.
  3. Mentorship Programs: Pair candidates with experienced CPAs at your organization who can provide guidance, answer questions, and share their own exam strategies and experiences.
  4. Encouragement and Support: Foster a supportive work environment where candidates feel encouraged and motivated. Regular check-ins and positive reinforcement can boost their confidence.
