Date: March 17–20, 2026
Location:
Vancouver, BC

CPABC was once again invited to participate in the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres’ annual Gathering Our Voices youth event, which took place this year in Vancouver, BC.

gathering-voices-mar2026-aGathering Our Voices aims to “provide Indigenous youth with the tools to empower and inspire so that they can contribute their gifts to their communities and the world.” During the event, CPABC facilitated 4 Financial Literacy sessions specifically tailored for Indigenous youth and hosted an exhibitor booth throughout the event. Staff engaged with youth and community members to share information regarding the various pathways to becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), and CPABC’s community programming.

gathering-voices-mar2026-bApproximately 280 Indigenous youth participated in the Financial Literacy workshops presented by CPABC. These interactive sessions were designed to provide practical knowledge and confidence in managing personal finances. The 2026 curriculum included, Money Basics for Indigenous Youth (plus a fun game of Bingo!), and Budgeting for Independence.

These sessions were delivered with the support of CPA volunteers Vickie Whitehead CPA, CGA, ICD.D, and Sheryle Evans CPA, CIA, BSc, who shared professional insights and practical financial guidance with participants. These workshops provided youth with the financial tools and career awareness necessary to support their professional development and community leadership.

A sincere thank you to the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres and, most importantly, the Indigenous young people in attendance for their energy and participation!
