Kamloops/Cariboo Chapter - Business Spotlight: The Kruger Kamloops Pulp Mill Experience

The CPABC Kamloops/Cariboo Chapter recently hosted its 3rd Business Spotlight event, featuring Kruger Kamloops Pulp Mill, with 11 members in attendance.

The event began with an informative presentation by the Mill Manager, Ms. Irene Preto, who shared the history of the mill, its products and operations, an overview of the end-to-end manufacturing process, and the mill’s impact on the local community highlighting Kruger’s continuous commitment to environmental stewardship. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where participants asked thoughtful questions that showed their keen interest in understanding the mill’s operations and manufacturing processes.

Following the presentation, participants were equipped with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before going on an exclusive guided tour of the mill. The tour provided a unique behind-the-scenes look at the pulp production process, from the arrival of wood chips through to the creation of finished products. Attendees also enjoyed a panoramic view from the top of the mill while learning about the flow of materials throughout the operation from knowledgeable engineering guides.

The hands-on experience provided an engaging and interactive way to learn about large-scale manufacturing processes and the important role that Kruger Pulp Mill plays nationwide and internationally. Attendees left inspired, with a deeper understanding of the industry, gaining an insight into Kruger’s operational processes which helps build a deeper understanding of the business drivers, costs, risks, and strategic decisions behind a complex manufacturing operation. Most importantly, everyone had a greater appreciation for the people and processes behind the products we rely on every day.
