The Kootenay West Chapter was thrilled to host a Business Spotlight—or more aptly, a Business Showcase Extravaganza—featuring our locally based, world-renowned company, Kalesnikoff Lumber Co. Ltd on September 23.  Known for its leadership in mass timber production, the company has now boldly expanded into prefabrication and modular construction, further cementing its reputation for innovation and excellence.

Krystle Seed, CPA, Chief Financial Officer, served as the event’s engaging spokesperson, guiding attendees through the inspiring story of this four-generation family business, founded in 1939. From its roots in traditional lumber/sawmill to its courageous leap into mass timber manufacturing—and now modular construction—Kalesnikoff’s journey reflects vision, resilience, and a commitment to quality.

A guiding principle of the company is the simple yet profound maxim: “Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.” This philosophy defines their family purpose and underpins a deep commitment to sustainability—from responsible harvesting and reforestation practices to minimizing manufacturing waste and continuously exploring forest renewal strategies that protect biodiversity and support regeneration in a changing climate.

Their mass timber products have been featured in buildings across Western North America, earning the company the prestigious 2025 Manufacturer and Supplier Award from the Vancouver Regional Construction Association. Locally, the Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce recently honoured Kalesnikoff with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing decades of contribution to the region’s economy and community.

A highlight of the event was the exclusive tour of North America’s first Modular Mass Timber Facility, located right here in Castlegar. Attendees had the privilege of seeing modular units in production and gaining up-close insight into the mass timber process. One of the tour guides included CEO Ken Kalesnikoff, adding a personal touch to the experience.

A warm shout-out to Chef’s Choice for providing a delicious soup and sandwich lunch to kick off the event.

With attendance capped at 35, the event’s popularity was clear—underscoring the community’s strong interest in learning more about this internationally acclaimed local business. Attendees left informed, inspired, and proud of the innovation and stewardship happening right in their backyard.
