Resources To Support Your Nomination

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria was developed by the CPA profession and is nationally harmonized. Nominators must highlight the candidate’s leadership and the exceptional nature of their performance in at least two of the following areas:

  • professional career;
  • volunteer involvement in the affairs of the accounting profession;
  • volunteer contribution to professional, community, or charitable organizations.

Candidates need not have made exceptional achievements in all three areas, but the nomination should demonstrate they’ve exhibited leadership and made a remarkable impact in more than one. It’s important to highlight that their achievements are well-known and have made them a recognized leader. Nominations should also clearly demonstrate that candidates identify themselves as CPAs and are recognized as such. In rare cases, if a candidate has made an exceptional contribution in just one field, the Member Recognition Committee will consider these nominations, however, the candidate's achievements must be widely recognized and make them a prominent leader in the field of activity selected.

Other: Nominators must be members of CPABC.

For each of the most remarkable achievements you highlight, specify the time in which the candidate was involved, committees or task forces they served on, and provide details on their remarkable achievements, such as: duration of service; evolution of the candidate's roles; impacts of the candidate's initiatives (or leadership) on the accounting profession; and results achieved (or how their contribution positively affected or advanced the profession).

Section 6 – Letters of support

The importance of the letters of support cannot be emphasized enough. They provide real examples to from those who have observed the candidate’s significant contributions and impact, including to the advancement of a cause, the development of an organization, or the completion of a major project. For that reason, the letters of support must highlight the candidate’s achievements, the expectations that were placed on them, examples of their significant leadership, and the results they achieved. The letters should also highlight other key points:

  • How long has the letter writer known the candidate? In what context did they observe the candidate's contribution? How does the candidate stand out and in which activities do they shine? What is remarkable about them and what impact have they had?
  • If you refer to an organization that is not widely known, please describe its mission and the candidate's impact on it.
  • Highlight the key points of each letter of support in the appropriate section of the nomination file. This will reinforce the achievements that have been mentioned.
