CPA Volunteer Spotlight: Erin Betts-Youdan, CPA, CMA
Erin Betts-Youdan, CPA, CMA, brings a thoughtful and practical approach to financial literacy, combining professional expertise with a genuine passion for helping others. Erin, who is the Director of Finance with Fair Haven Homes Society, also makes time to give back as a financial literacy volunteer. Through her volunteerism, she enjoys creating conversations around money management, sharing real-world insights, and helping participants feel more prepared to navigate an increasingly complex financial world.
What inspired you to volunteer with the CPA Financial Literacy Program?
I was inspired by my mother, a single mother of two, who taught me how to budget and manage my finances at an early age. I have carried this knowledge throughout my life. I continue to leverage this foundation, along with the skills learned during my accounting education and career to empower those who have not had the same opportunities.
Why did you choose to volunteer to teach the audience/topic that you do?
I volunteer with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, offering sessions to their clients. I enjoy the opportunity to give back and learn as well. The participants ask excellent questions, which keeps me on my toes and makes me a better presenter.
Why is it important for everyone to be financially literate?
With evolving technology and financial challenges, mastering money is essential. Staying literate, avoiding fraud, and planning for taxes provides peace of mind, letting people focus on what truly matters.
