Building financial futures, one student at a time

Andy Yu

After stepping away from full-time corporate life, Andy sought a more hands-on way to give back. His background in nonprofit leadership inspired him to connect directly with youth through financial literacy education. As a father of two, teaching kids about money management is both personally meaningful and fun. He encourages other CPAs to get involved, saying, “Your expertise can help shape the financial futures of many. Join us today and be a part of this meaningful program!”

What inspired you to volunteer with the CPA Financial Literacy Program?

After retiring from full-time corporate life, I wanted to engage more in volunteer work. I have served on boards and as a treasurer for various non-profit organizations, believing that this is one of the most significant contributions CPAs can make to the community. However, I sought a more “boots on the ground” experience that directly connects with the beneficiaries of the organization. The CPA Financial Literacy Program offered this opportunity, and I eagerly pursued it.

Why did you choose to volunteer to teach the audience/topic that you do?

I primarily teach elementary and high school students about savings, budgeting, and other essential financial life skills. As a proud father of two elementary school children, I find this work particularly meaningful as well as a lot of fun. Additionally, it's a refreshing change from teaching the “big kids” at Douglas College!

What would you say to other CPAs who are thinking of volunteering with the Financial Literacy Program?

What are you waiting for? If you're passionate about making a difference, I encourage you to get involved with the CPA Financial Literacy Program. Your expertise can help shape the financial futures of many. Join us today and be a part of this meaningful program!
