On May 20, 2020, CPABC hosted the second ‘Ask a CPA’ event revolving around the topic: What does it take to become a CPA? Students listened to a panel of three CPA members who talked about the different paths they took before becoming a CPA. After the panel, students were given the opportunity to ask their own questions.

Christine Woodington, CPA, CGA
Corporate Accountant at Coal Island Ltd.
Christine Woodington is the Corporate Accountant at Coal Island Ltd. an Asset Management company. She is the recipient of the CPA BC Distinguished Service award and CPA Member Ambassador award that recognized her service to the profession as a volunteer to the CPA Chapters, Mentor Advisory Board and as a CPA Ambassador. Christine also mentors students at Langara College where she completed her BBA. When she is not volunteering or working you can find her singing the anthems at a baseball game or teaching a group fitness class as a certified CBRPA Fitness Leader.
Samuel Lau, CPA
Tax Manager at KPMG LLP
Sam moved to Vancouver from Hong Kong at the age of 5 and has lived here since. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology at UBC in 2012, but realized that the nature of the work was not enjoyable, and made the decision to change career paths. Sam started working at KPMG LLP in 2014 and is currently a Tax Manager in the Real Estate tax group. He enjoys the challenge of interpreting complex tax laws and assisting clients in navigating through changes in tax legislation. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games, badminton, and volleyball.
Amrita Dayal, CPA, CA
Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis at Peoples Group
Amrita's journey to becoming a CPA began at Simon Fraser University where she obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting. In her fourth year, she worked as a summer intern at Deloitte & Touché and upon graduation she began a full-time position at Deloitte part of their audit team. Over the next two years she obtained the CPA designation and worked on multiple private and public company audits. After over three years at Deloitte, she started her first industry job at Klohn Crippen Berger, an engineering firm, as a Financial Accountant. Intrigued with the industry world, she further progressed to take on a Controller position at Snap Financial Group. Today, she is the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis at Peoples Group, a Financial Institution. She manages the company’s budget, prepares forecasts, analyzes new acquisition opportunities, and works closely with the C-Suite to make strategic decisions for the growth and future of the company.
