Donate to CPAEF

Thanks to our donors, the CPAEF is able to continue its important mission to help accounting students and faculty reach their academic goals and further the accounting profession for generations to come. The suite of awards offered by the CPAEF helps support students who demonstrate academic achievement and community service, funds advances in accounting research, and helps less privileged youth stay in school.

The CPAEF is registered under the Income Tax Act of Canada and all donations are income tax deductible. The charitable registration number is 0871335-21.

If you would like to make a donation to the CPAEF, thank you! Below are the various ways you can make a difference.

You can make a general donation to the CPAEF four ways:

  1. During the member dues process.
  2. Anytime during the year through Online Services.
  3. By mail or in person at the CPAEF offices.
  4. By donating your fees if you are a Professional Development program instructor. For further information, contact CPABC’s Vice-President, Professional Development.


A planned gift is a significant contribution that you intend to give to the CPAEF now or in the future. A planned gift is a thoughtful, tax-wise donation that achieves both your philanthropic and estate planning objectives. Examples of planned gifts include naming the CPAEF as:

  • a beneficiary in your will. That legacy may be a gift of a fixed sum or the gift of estate residue;
  • a primary or secondary beneficiary of an annuity, RRSP, or other financial instrument that makes up your estate; or
  • the recipient of your life insurance policy may permit you to arrange a substantial gift by making modest monthly or annual payments while living.

Many CPAs are active in the profession and their colleagues or family wish to acknowledge and continue their contributions by setting up memorial funds and/or scholarships for students.

Brian Friedrich Bursary

The CPAEF annually grants the following "in memoriam" scholarships and bursaries:

  • Marian Easton Memorial Scholarship at Capilano University
  • Dave Elder Memorial Prize at CPAWSB
  • John Hadfield Memorial Scholarship at Camosun College 
  • William B. Hards Memorial Scholarship at BCIT
  • Dick Lucas Memorial Scholarship at Okanagan College
  • Tom Kennedy Memorial Scholarship at UBC
  • K. Alfred Marsh Bursary at CPAWSB
  • Jim Miller DAP Scholarship at UBC 
  • Lam A. Milne Memorial Scholarship at UBC
  • Desmond O'Brien Memorial Scholarships at UBC and SFU 
  • William Rowe Memorial Scholarship at UBC 
  • Peter Stanley Scholarship at UBC
  • Elite Woo Memorial Bursary at CPAWSB.

Other "in memoriam" funds may be established without being attached to a specific named scholarship. For instance, the Geoffery W.J. Carter Memorial Education Fund was established in 1991, and forms part of the Endowment Funds that are devoted to the advancement of accounting education through measures designed to enhance the quality of undergraduate training, increase the enrolment of promising students through scholarships, and to provide for professionally related research. 

In addition, the CPAEF has named several scholarships in honour of the significant contributions made to the profession by certain members:

  • W. C. Easton Award at SFU
  • James Fedorak Award at Thompson Rivers University
  • Bill Johnson DAP Award at UBC
  • W. Curry McCalpin Award at CPAWSB
  • R. Glynn Spelliscy Award at BCIT.

If you wish to set up a memorial fund or scholarship, please contact the CPAEF.

The CPAEF has recently set aside significant monies to match donations from firms and CPABC chapters. This matching program will fund new scholarships at educational institutions throughout BC. If the criteria are met, the CPAEF will match the new funds donated and will administer the scholarship through the CPAEF's established program. Benefits to donors include:

  • the opportunity to name the scholarship;
  • encouraging talented students to enter the CPA profession; 
  • participating in the post-secondary institution's annual presentation ceremonies (if held); 
  • increased visibility associated with the scholarship announcements in the local media and in CPABC in Focus magazine; and 
  • receiving the tax deduction resulting from the donation (not including the matching funds).

The CPAEF offers matching scholarships and bursaries to accounting students at most post-secondary schools in the province, including:

  • Langara College

  • Trinity Western University
  • University of British Columbia
