Vancouver Chapter Community Event - UBC Farm Tour and Volunteering Event Recap
On Saturday, June 3, a group of CPA members, candidates, and students volunteered with UBC Farm.
UBC Farm is a teaching/research center and local-to-global food hub working towards a more sustainable food secure future.
It was a beautiful, warm summer’s day to be outdoors! The day started with a tour, where volunteers were shown the variety of crops and programs being run on the farm.
After becoming acquainted with the land, our volunteers got to work. We geared up with our sunhats, gardening gloves, and buckets to begin our weeding in the greenhouse. There were 3 rows of wildly grown weeds. Our job was to remove the weeds and prepare the land for planting new crops in the next week.
We had a lot of fun getting to share conversations with other CPA members and candidates, while spending the time outdoors. We were also able to enjoy the UBC Farm market afterwards!
We can’t wait to reconnect with more volunteers at our next event!
