On June 1, 2017, CPABC and Business in Vancouver co-presented the 2017 BC CFO Awards at Vancouver’s Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, recognizing seven of the province’s leading CFOs. Honourees were chosen based on their proven ability to help companies grow through sound business principles, financial reporting, and strategic decision-making.
Award winners were recognized in the following categories:
CPABC’s interim president and CEO, Olin Anton, FCPA, FCA, provided welcoming remarks during which he commended the award recipients for their leadership and financial stewardship, and remarked that they “bring valuable insights to their organizations and are role models for the business community.”
The night proceeded with dinner, video displays, and the presentation of awards. CPABC’s executive vice-president, operations and CFO, Amy Lam, FCPA, FCA, introduced honouree Ian Cameron, CPA, CA, commenting, “Over the last twenty years, Ian has supported Methanex – the world’s largest producer of methanol – through a strategy of global leadership, low cost, and operational excellence.”
Lam also spoke about Cameron’s commitment to fostering talent in team members, saying, “He is a leader who does not waiver in his commitment to excellence, but also consistently focuses on developing those around him.” Lam noted members of Cameron’s finance department have gone on to executive roles in operations, logistics, marketing, and corporate development.
The event was rounded out with remarks from journalist and Business in Vancouver vice-president of audience and business development, Kirk LaPointe.
