CPABC would like to congratulate you on receiving your CPA designation. Convocation is a time for us to come together to celebrate your achievement. The following notes are designed to help plan your day and to make it as stress free as possible.
Date – Saturday, May 27, 2017
Ceremony – 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Reception – 5:30 p.m.
Gala – 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Dress Code – Business Attire/Cocktail Attire
Location – Vancouver Convention Centre West, 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver.
Directions – Click here to view a map and get directions to the Vancouver Convention Centre. There are also many public transit options. Click here to plan your trip by transit. If you are taking the Canada Line or SkyTrain, the closest station is Waterfront Station.
Parking – Paid parking is available at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Enter off of Canada Place, a half block west of the Burrard Street intersection.
Cost – There is no charge for attending the ceremony. However, if you wish to attend the gala, you may purchase tickets for you and your guests. Tickets are $100 each (GST included).
An advertisement promoting the grad class will be published in the May 27, 2017 issue of the Globe and Mail.

*Students who successfully pass the CFE in 2017 will be eligible to attend the Convocation in 2018.

There is no charge to attend the ceremony but pre-registration is required.
If you wish to purchase tickets for you and your guests to attend the gala, tickets are $100 each (GST included).
The deadline to register for the ceremony and/or gala is April 21, 2017.
Please arrive at the Vancouver Convention Centre West by 1:00 p.m. and report directly to West Exhibit Hall B. All graduates must be registered by 1:30 p.m.
Please leave all your personal belongings, including purses, with your guests as you will be going into West Ballroom A/B for the ceremony directly from the West Exhibit Hall B.
Doors to West Ballroom A/B will open at 1:00 p.m. for your guests.
Seating for the ceremony for guests is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Upon entering West Exhibit Hall B, you will receive a corsage/boutonnière to identify you as a graduate.
You will be briefed on the procedure for the ceremony and you will be asked to lineup alphabetically for the procession. A staff member will be on hand to assist with this process. Please remain in line.
A bag piper will lead you into West Ballroom A/B where you will be seated in a reserved area.
Each row will be brought up to the end of the stage. A staff member will be on hand to assist with this process.
You will be asked to introduce yourself at the ceremony. Eg. Joe Smith, CPA!
If you have an immediate family member (parent, sibling, spouse or child) who is also a designated CPA (CA, CGA, CMA), you may request that they introduce you at the event. Please provide this information on the online registration form.
Once you have been introduced and have crossed the stage, please return to your seat. Out of courtesy to your fellow graduates and your guests, we ask you to remain seated until the end of the ceremony. There will be time after the ceremony concludes to greet and take photos with your family and friends.
The ceremony will be recorded and a link to the video will be available online (date to be determined).
After the ceremony, you will be given the opportunity to go back up onto the stage to have your photo taken with the CPABC Chair and the CPA Canada Chair.
Please note that certificates will not be distributed at the ceremony. Certificates will be mailed to graduates.
The Graduates’ Gala Reception begins at 5:30 p.m. (cash bar), with dinner being served at approximately 7:00 p.m.
The gala consists of a three-course plated dinner, a glass of wine with dinner and dancing to a live band.
The cost of attending the Graduates’ Gala is $100 per person (GST included). Pre-registration is required for all graduates, family members and friends who wish to attend. The deadline to register is April 21, 2017. You may purchase as many tickets as you wish.
CPABC will be assigning dinner seats for you and your guests. No tickets will be issued. Your name will be posted on seating plans outside the ballroom to indicate the table number for you and your guest(s).
Each table is set for 10 people.
You may request to sit at a table with specific graduates. Please provide this information on the online registration form.

Sherwood Studios will be available onsite on Saturday, May 27, for graduates and their family and friends who wish to get professional portraits taken. Sherwood Studios will be located in West Meeting Room 101-102 until 7:00 p.m.

To avoid the long line-up after the ceremony, grads are encouraged to make an appointment by contacting the studio beforehand.
If you are not able to get your photo taken on the day of the ceremony, you may also book a private photo session in their studios.
