Discover CPA

Are you interested in becoming a CPA but don’t have a business-related background? This Discover CPA event will feature a panel of CPAs who did not study business prior to pursuing their CPA path. Receive an overview of the CPA profession and program and take part in a skill development workshop to see what transferrable skills you can offer.

Adrian LawAdrian Law, CPA, CA, Corporate Controller, Diversified Royalty Corp.
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Arts in Art History
 
At age 33, Adrian decided to change careers from cooking to accounting. After completing an accounting diploma, he began his public accounting career at PwC. Adrian now enjoy helping students develop their interpersonal and professional skills, and mentoring them to reach their Accounting career goals.

Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance
 
Bridgit graduated from University of Victoria with a BSc majoring in Economics and Finance. She completed her CPA designation through public practice at MNP LLP in Calgary transferring to KPMG LLP in Vancouver. Following her passion for community and sweat, Bridgit landed her dream job at lululemon athletica where she currently works in Finance. With the pandemic, Bridgit was able to relocate to her hometown, Calgary, and works remotely.



Doug QuernsDoug Querns, CPA, CGA, MBA, Director, Finance & Administration, Vancouver Opera Association
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Physical Education
 
Doug worked in the Corporate world for over 20 years following his designation working in the fields of biotechnology, manufacturing, banking, insurance and consulting. In 2007 he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and required two years of rehabilitation prior to returning to the workforce.  Since that time Doug has worked in the charitable sector working for a number of different charities.  Doug is a recreational triathlete and was a member of both the 2010 Olympic Torch relay and the Rick Hanson 25th Anniversary relay.



Heather Wai-LeeHeather Wai-Lee Murray, CPA, CMA, Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, Q4 Inc.
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and French
 
Heather is Director, Financial Planning & Analysis at Q4 Inc., a leading capital markets software company that recently completed its successful IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange. She has over 15 years of Finance experience in a wide range of sectors and industries including government, telecommunications, retail and SaaS. Heather holds a BA in Linguistics and French from Simon Fraser University and is a CPA, CMA.



VishalVishal Hiralal, CPA, CA, Principal & Owner, Cinephile Accounting
Undergraduate degree: Bachelor of Science in General Biology
 
Vishal has been working in the Film & Entertainment Industry since 2014 helping cast and crew members with their accounting and taxation needs and building their competency in financial literacy.  As Vishal grows his practice and production house, he has two priorities: to invest in his clients, whether it be time or financial resources—in their pitches and productions; to build his portfolio and produce projects that showcase social justice themes and focus on talent that have been underrepresented in the industry.
