When you are asked, “What are your salary expectations?” have you thought the following to yourself:
- “Do I say a higher number, or aim low so I don’t lose the job?”
- “But I want as much a salary as they would give me so what do I say?”
- “I’ll give a salary range.”
- “Can I negotiate anything else or is it just salary?”
- “I don’t know, you tell me.”
Yes, salary is important, but there are additional factors about the organization we are interviewing with that we must also consider for ourselves in our decision making process. Whether you are a job seeker, or person already navigating the ranks in your own accounting career pathway, it is important to consider the entire package for yourself, and not just the salary alone. Entire package often includes additional benefits such as vacation days, medical coverage, parental leave, hybrid work, flex days, is there room to grow my accounting career within the organization, are professional development courses for career supported financially, RRSP contributions, and much more. These are just some of the many examples of what we can consider into our negotiation process when engaging in these conversations with potential and current employers.
Our panelists will share with us how and when to negotiate salary throughout your accounting career path within their organizations; how salary is structured, the additional package, perks and benefits available at their organizations, and what an accounting career for you may look like at their organizations. Event includes live audience questions and answers to the panelists.
