CPA’s Journey – What to Expect in Core 1

Interested to learn what happens when you start the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)? The Learner Support team from the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) will discuss with us what to expect in Core 1, the first module of the CPA PEP. You will then have an opportunity to ask your own questions about the CPA certification program.
 
Please note: This session is for current students taking CPA preparatory courses or those interested in pursuing the CPA designation, who are NOT yet enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program.

Heather MarkleyHeather Markley, CPA, CMA

Heather Markley, CPA, CMA is the Manager of Learner Support at the CPA Western School of Business supports, where she supports learners’ technical and enabling competency development required for CPA certification. She is passionate about lifelong learning and previously was an educational contractor for the CPA profession holding several roles including facilitator, session leader/assistant session leader, and marker for the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) and the CPA Common Final Evaluation (CFE).
 
Prior to supporting CPA PEP learning and development, Heather worked in both public practice and industry with focus in finance, strategy, and business consulting. When not working, Heather enjoys keeping active through yoga and exploring the outdoors.


 
Shawn WeberShawn Weber, CPA, MPAcc
Director, Learner Support
CPA Western School of Business
 
Shawn Weber, CPA, MPAcc joined the CPA Western School of Business in January 2019 and is current Director of Learner Support. Shawn and his team are responsible for engaging with learners throughout the CPA certification program to support them in developing their technical and enabling competencies to successfully pass the CPA Common Final Evaluation (CFE).
 
Prior to joining The School, Shawn was an educational and exam contractor with the CPA profession holding the roles of PREP in-person Facilitator and Marker, as well as CFE Exam Center supervisor and Lead Exam Center IT Proctor. He also led the marking centre for the Master of Professional Accounting Program at the University of Saskatchewan and was a marker for the CFE.
 
Shawn holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction, Entrepreneurship Specialization from the University of Victoria, and is a designated CPA.


 
Damian GrossDamian Gross
Director, Admission Advising & Engagement
CPA Western School of Business

Damian Gross joined the CPA Western School of Business in August 2016 and is currently the Director of Admission Advising & Engagement. Damian and his team are responsible for assisting and advising prospective CPAs and new applicants with the enrollment process at CPAWSB, from the moment new applicants create a My CPA profile through to the moment they submit an admission application for CPA preparatory courses or CPA PEP. Prior to joining The School, Damian was employed with CPA Alberta as Manager of Admission Advising within Student Recruitment.
